As the next school year approaches and as I fill out online forms for free posters and homeschool trips to the zoo, I’ve started to wonder…. do we need a name for our homeschool?
I don’t know if I need one at this point or not, but I think I want to go ahead and pick one out so we have it if we need it. I know a lot of people just do (last name) Homeschool Academy or something like that, but I don’t like our last name for that.
So I’m wondering: How many of you have given your school a name? How did you pick it out? Do you like Such and Such Homeschool or Such and Such Academy or is there some other option I haven’t thought of? For some reason I don’t like ‘academy’ as much – maybe because it sounds so much more strict than we are. 🙂 We are flexible eclectic homeschoolers.
I’m kinda thinking about Faith-something. I looked it up on google and there is a TON of faith academy this or that. But still, I think it is good. Faith Academy or Faith Homeschool Academy.
I also like Seeds of Faith something or other. My daughter just suggested Faith Family Homeschool.

We’ve always had a name for ours, because there have been times when I’ve had to put a name for a catalog or some other thing I’ve ordered. Ours isn’t fancy: Turtle Creek Academy, because we live near Turtle Creek. 🙂
We named ours __ (famous preacher, my husband’s choice) Academy. I like that we have a name, it gives our kids something to say besides “I’m in homeschool kindergarten” though that’s what she usually says! And when I fill out freebie forms I have a business or school name to type in! 🙂
We don’t have a name and haven’t really even thought about it. It’s a neat idea, though!
A homeschooling friend of mine suggested I do this too, because it is a good thing to have when you attempt to get teacher/school discounts at different supply stores that offer educational discounts. I like Seeds of Faith name, or your daughters idea!

I wish I would have put more thought into our homeschool name. I REALLY like the nature-inspired names I’ve seen. We just used our street name and Academy. It sounds official and the only time I use it is if we fill out forms to get things in the mail. My husband thinks it is so cool that so many free magazines and catalogs and school things come to our house, aka “Melwood Academy”.

We tried to come up with a name last year, but couldn’t agree on one.
Sometimes I refer to it as “Tensel Academy” (my last name) on my blogs, but two of my children have a different last name, so I don’t call it that around them.
Sometimes we call it “South Meadow Academy” after our street, but we really want to move, so we don’t want anything with that printed on it.
You’ve gotten me re-interested in coming up with a name, though!
Or theres always the School of ‘Fill it in here’. I like that and think it will work well, too. I was thinking about that recently and decided that is what I’m going to use because I know our children will need some kind of diploma but I’m still working on what the last word or phrase will be. I’ll keep thinking and let you know if I come up with something specific. 🙂 But I do think it should reflect what your mission statement is. Anyways… that’s my two (or three) cents…
