Ten Things I Did NOT Miss About Having Indoor Cats

I like cats.

I just prefer they spend most of their time outside. We have had two outside-cats-who-occasionally-come-inside-for-a-nap for a few years now. But to keep them from crawling into and tearing up the insulation under the house, we’ve decided to have two mostly-inside-cats-who-occasionally-go-out-for-a-romp(but-spend-all-night-inside)—until we get underskirting around the bottom of the house.

Oh goodie!

We’ve had inside cats for a couple of weeks now.

I’m pretty sure it only took me a couple of days to remember at least 10 Things I didn’t miss about having cats in the house…

Ten Things I Didn’t Miss About Having Indoor Cats

1.) Cats scratching my furniture!
(So I bought a scratching post.)

(I have a real butter dish with a real lid now! I just have to remember not to leave it uncovered.)

3.) Cats clawing at the windows/blinds.
(What is up with THAT?)

4.) Cats waking me up at 2am, or 4am, or 6am (or all three) scratching at the windows and blinds.
(Again.. really??)

5.) Cats digging in the trash.
(Guess my trash can needs a lid, too!)

6.) Cats on the counter. Or the table. Or the stove. Looking for goodies.
(There is FOOD in the DISH on the FLOOR!)

7.) Cats fighting in the house.
(It’s happened once or twice already…

8.) Kids fighting over cats.
(That’s happened more than once or twice already…)

9.) Cats… LICKING.. the BUTTER…

10.) Cats peeing on things. Like my couch.
Oh no he DIDN’T! Oh yes he DID.

And because I cheated and repeated THE BUTTER (!!).. Here’s a real number 10:
LITTERBOXES!! Enough said.

P.S. I really do like our cats. 😉

YES!! I love cats. Really, LOVE them. But we haven’t had one since my youngest was a baby because they made him break out in hives (yes, actual hives). So we’ve been without for 10 years. It’s the only ten years of my entire life I haven’t had a cat. Growing up we always had two. We live on a dead-cats-fast road now, so we can’t get one, although our son seems to mostly have outgrown his allergy to them… but that litter box is something I do NOT want to ever deal with again. I want those cats that… Read more »

We live in the country so we’ve always had at least one cat, (minus about 8 months one year and then we got a huge mouse infestation!! We gladly went back to having cats!!) I’m not sure how long we’ll keep them in, but we have started letting them in and out as they please, now that they know they can come in any time they want, and that all the food is in here, and it’s not as cold outside to encourage them to crawl up into the underbelly of the house for warmth.. we feel like we can… Read more »

LOL! I agree. I am much more of a dog person, although I could probably write a similar list about why I dislike indoor dogs. Number 1 would be the constant supply of white dog hairs I pick of my clothing.

I could definitely write a dog list if I had dogs. =)
Barking in the middle of the night at random noises… taking up half the bed… slobbering on things.. ;0)

I like outdoor cats that come inside for periods of time, too. That’s the kind of cat we had when I was little and it was perfect!

Now, I don’t think I could handle an indoor cat. Even at my brother’s house, where the cat stays off the counters, I was picking hair out of the food-while cooking it! Ew!

We don’t have any pets now because of my little guy’s allergies. He gets so bad when we visit families with pets. I’m thinking a fish might work, but I’m better at killing them than keeping them alive. :/

Pet hair is an issue, too, but I haven’t noticed it TOO much yet…one of our cats is shorthaired but the other one has hair that’s a bit longer. I do want to get a cat brush because I know that regular brushing will help keep stray cat hair under control..

Oh, I completely understand! I have 2. One that is always inside and 1 who is in and out. Mostly out during warm months and in during cold months. The outside kitty tends to not want to use the litter box and will go and pee on laundry that is in the bathroom floor, in the tub, in front of the litter box. It is maddening. And she is the one that loves to get up on the counters. YUCK! And since I can’t stand the smell when either goes to the litter box, I end up scooping the litter… Read more »

Yuck! My biggest frustration with the litter box right now is that it’s just a plain flat plastic litter box and the cats keep kicking kitty litter out onto the floor – LOTS OF IT. I need on of those that has the “lid” that brings the sides up taller!!

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
