One of Drama Queen’s favorite songs is ‘My God is So Big!’

“My God is so big! So strong and so mighty! There’s Nothing my God cannot do! (Repeat)

The mountains are His, The rivers are His, The stars are His and you are too!

My God is so big! So strong and so mighty! There’s nothing my God cannot do!”

I got to thinking lately how easy it is to sing that song but how hard it can be to live it. If our God is big and strong and mighty and there is nothing He cannot do, then there is nothing for us to fear, is there? But don’t we worry anyway? I do.

I read or heard somewhere recently a reminder that if we fear, then we are not fully trusting God. That fear itself is a sign of our doubt that God will take care of us. I don’t think that means that we should never consider the future, but I do think that means we should never worry about it. Our God is big. And strong. And mighty. And there’s nothing He cannot do. So it doesn’t matter what the future holds, it’s not too big for God. And even if the future holds something difficult for us, it’s still not too big for God.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:25-34

I had the opportunity to share this comfort with Princess the other day. She was upset and worrying about what the future might hold and I got to talk her through it, reminding her that God is all-powerful and He is faithful and we can trust him to do what is right. I confessed that I worry sometimes, too, but I told her that if we ask God to take the worry away and give us peace, He will. It may not happen all at once, we may have to keep praying for peace as God changes our hearts. But God will give us peace about the future.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me–practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4: 4-9

I have to confess, I can stand firm in the face of many storms and boldly place my trust in God – but not every single one of them. There are certain storms that can get to me and bring me to my knees, time and time again. When I’m having one of my low days, almost any storm that comes at me can knock me over with a flick of its pinky finger (if a storm had a pinky finger that is.) And if I’m going through a low period (a few days or even a few weeks at a time) – I have to admit that spiritually I am cowering under my bed and hiding from all the thunder and lightening. But the important thing to remember is that we have absolutely nothing to fear. If we trust God, really trust him, we won’t worry about what the next storm will bring or what damage it will do. Instead of cowering from a storm, we’d bathe our house and family in prayer and ask God for protection from the storm, but in faith and not in fear.

God give me the faith I need to trust you completely, give me peace about anything the future might bring, bring me joy in every circumstance. Amen.

Hey, y’all! I’m Amber and I wear many hats. I drink a ton of coffee and I’m constantly sweeping crumbs off the floor. After 20+ years of homeschooling, we are starting over at preschool with our fourth, Lil Miss Mouse. She keeps us young and she’s the main reason for my excessive coffee consumption. Drink up!
