12 Days of EasterMany of you have already seen the Resurrection Eggs before, I’m sure. Initially, we tried to use these to improve our Easter Egg hunts but finally, we stopped doing the hunts altogether. No judging here, we just found that when there are candy eggs, they take center stage. It’s hard to pay attending to anything else!

But we still had these plastic Resurrection Eggs – what to do with those? Just as we use our Adornaments to count down the last 12 days leading to Christmas, we began to use our Resurrection Eggs in the same fashion. Opening one egg a day, reading from the bible, and discussing that token’s element in the Easter account, we use these much like our Advent devotionals at the end of the day.

12 Days of Easter Resurrection Eggs

Many people take issue with using any kind of “egg” for celebrating Easter, because of the pagan history of worshipping mother Earth and worshipping the egg. A symbol is what you make of it, and as I stated yesterday, Christ came that we might LIVE. Also, God is our creator, why we have life, and why we live (for HIM.) The egg is also the beginning of life – a single cell that God created to have the ability to grow an entire, new, whole, separate being. From the chicken egg to the human egg, the egg is a miraculous testimony to the splendor and wonder of God’s creation.

God blew life into us, and then he made us so we could reproduce! God also gave us a spiritual life, that when we are reborn through repentance and confession and take on the Holy Spirit, a new life begins in us. And we also have the ability to “reproduce,” bringing others to know Him. What an amazing God.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28

Resurrection Eggs

The Resurrection Eggs were intended to be used in an Easter Egg hunt, at the end of which you would sit all of the children down together and see who had “the light blue egg” (for example,) have the child open the egg and show the token, and read the passage for each token. We marked our eggs with black permanent marker dots to set them apart from other eggs. You can choose to use them in this manner, or for daily devotions as we do here at our house.

Hey, y’all! I’m Amber and I wear many hats. I drink a ton of coffee and I’m constantly sweeping crumbs off the floor. After 20+ years of homeschooling, we are starting over at preschool with our fourth, Lil Miss Mouse. She keeps us young and she’s the main reason for my excessive coffee consumption. Drink up!
