I thought about calling this “Where Baby Kitties Come From” or “The Early Bird Finds the Kittens” or perhaps even “I tawt I taw a Puttytat!”
The short story is that my cat woke me up at 6 this morning, meowing and acting weird and wanting attention. On the off chance she was about to have her kittens I was going to put her in her cat carrier but before I got her in there, she started giving birth on my living room floor! I grabbed some old towels and the carrier and slid her onto the towels. She cleaned up the first kitten and then moved to the carrier where she had four more baby kitties – all identical! Um, weird.
Drama Queen had been crawling in bed with me when all the excitement started so we put a movie on and watched tv while she had the rest of her kittens. She got to watch the mommy, who by the way is named Woohoo, clean up the first one and she was grinning from ear to ear in excitement (though I would have called it slimy and gross!) 😛 Princess woke up a little later and they kept eagerly checking the carrier to see if she’d had anymore.
If you look close below her left ear you can see a little baby kitten face.
This afternoon we moved them to our bathtub (which is quite large and not in use right now) and closed them in our bathroom where Little Prince can’t get to them. He kinda reminds me of the abominable snowman from Bugs Bunny that kept picking him up and holding him too tight? “I will hug him and squeeze him and love him and I will call him George.” And though I don’t want to keep them, I don’t want them squished to death either. 🙂
But apparently Woohoo doesn’t think the bath tub is as great as I do, because she keeps grabbing one and meowing at the door. I let her out once just to see where she would go, and she tried to take it under my bed! Into where the white backing is hanging down off the boxspring! I. Don’t. Think. So. So I keep taking them from her and putting them back into the bathtub and coaxing her back in with them. Finally tonight I pulled the carrier back out and put the kittens back in and I guess that was okay because she crawled in with them. So their all sleeping in the carrier tonight. Tomorrow, I have no idea what we’ll do. 🙂
So now we have 5 baby kitties to take care of for the next two months before we can give them away. (Want a kitten??) Oh man, if I can just keep reminding the kids that they are not! staying! 😉
Um, yeah….ewe on the living room carpet!! I agree with you, the bath tub sounds like a great place to keep the kitties. Why doesn’t Whoohoo think so too? Who named the cat anyway – not like I can speak, my son named his beta fish Fisher Eater! 🙂
I have a lot of fond memories of my cats having kittens when I grew up. Kittens are my favorite, what fun pictures!
How magical! I’ve never seen an animal give birth before in real life, and I bet it was amazing!
Hope they adjust to their tub-digs!
I don’t want a kitten, but they are quite adorable!
Wow! What an eventful morning/day! I bet that was a lot of fun for the girls! The kittens are cute, I wish I could take one – but Jared is allergic to them! 🙁
LOL.
Well, the story is that she just showed up at our house one day and adopted us. Turns out she came from a neighbor’s outside cat and for some reason she just decided she was going to be ours – ran in and made herself at home, actually.
So when the girls were trying to call her over, one of them said, “Woo-hoo, woo-hoo,..” instead of “Yoohoo!”It made me think of Woohoo the star, from Dora the Explorer and I thought it was cute and it just kinda stuck. =)
