a-blog-sinsacrificesetfree.jpgPrincess and I are planning a little Valentine’s Day party for her and Drama Queen and a few friends. Nothing fancy, really. Just some cake and pink milk and lots of hearts hung up all over the place. And an angle.

Anybody that knows me knows there is always an angle. We rarely have ‘just a party.’ Last year we had a “Valentine’s Day Tea & Lesson in Manners and Etiquette.” Princess helped me make a little booklet that we gave to each friend, explaining how using manners is a good way to show God’s love.

This year I wanted to do something different, but also something simpler than the full tea we did last year. I was thinking we’ll probably just do a little craft, and I might tell them a little story about the origins of Valentine’s Day or something. Naturally, it would include something about loving others the way God sees it, not the way the world sees it. But truthfully, I’m not very prepared and pretty much have no idea what my ‘angle’ is yet.

And then in the middle of briefly mentioning to Princess that we’ll decorate tomorrow, she looks up at me and says “We need to decorate with black hearts and red hearts and white hearts. Because first our hearts are black and then red and then white.” (It’s an illustration that our church and the Good News Club uses to teach kids about the plan of salvation.) And suddenly I’m thinking, Why yes, dear, of course! It’s brilliant! There’s my angle!

Yes, Princess, you make your Momma proud. Your a girl after my own heart.

Hey, y’all! I’m Amber and I wear many hats. I drink a ton of coffee and I’m constantly sweeping crumbs off the floor. After 20+ years of homeschooling, we are starting over at preschool with our fourth, Lil Miss Mouse. She keeps us young and she’s the main reason for my excessive coffee consumption. Drink up!
