The one where we tried to start doing school again.. and then went shopping.

In my life this week…

Hey, guess what? We homeschool!!
It’s been so long, one might have started wondering. We took a humongous break to move. Monday I decided we were going to try to ease back into school, knowing that we wouldn’t do any school on Tuesday, but thinking we’d do school the rest of the week.

School on Monday went surprisingly well considering we were seriously out of the habit. Tuesday was a really good day, which began with Specken Dicken at my mom’s house, continued with inlaws over for lunch, and ended with a quiet family evening. And that is all of the week that went like planned. Wednesday my great uncle asked to pick up the kids to take them shopping for their Christmas presents (his gift was a shopping trip) and he came and got the girls for the day. I’d forgotten that Thursday was a retainer check at the orthodontist for Princess so I packed up all three kids for that and afterward we shopped at Payless and Home Depot with Christmas gift cards. And Friday my great uncle came to get my son for his turn to go shopping.

So, school was far outweighed by shopping this week. ;0) But NEXT week.. it’s back to the books!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Things don’t have to be perfect to learn! Our school space is just kind of thrown together right now but we can find our books and pencils so it’s all good!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

In addition to all the aforementioned fun, New Year’s Eve was spent visiting with some friends that we haven’t gotten together with in far too long. It was a fun evening! Today, Saturday, my mom and I ran errands and then had fun perusing a local antique shop (we need to do that more often.) That was followed by a baby shower for a friend of the family and I hugged and chatted with several “practically family” members. It was fun!

My favorite thing this week was…

Playing “Fact or Cr@p” with family on New Year’s Day. I’d never played before, and I really love playing board games — it was a load of fun!

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

I’d have to say shopping and spending gift cards. Or maybe staying up late on New Year’s Eve. Or maybe chilling with their BFFs. So many!

Things I’m working on…

DUDE. How long ya got?? I have a list of things I’m working on that I can’t even see the end of! I have a ton of projects around the house. We’ve been in here for three weeks, and we’ve been BOOKING through the projects. I’m on a roll! My current projects: finish the minor details in the kitchen, finish painting our master bedroom. Next projects: trim and paint the wall we built, DIY overhead kitchen cabinets into a bar in the dining room.

I’m also getting back into work here on the blog! Hey guess, what? I have a blog. ;0) I am so stinkin’ excited about some things that just recently lined up, too. You’re going to start seeing me posting as a contributing writer, contributing toward a really cool ebook, and participating in some fun projects with iHomeschool Network. I’m working on lining up sponsors for a LOVE themed Mommy Time Facebook party in February (hello romance!) and I’m going to be sharing with you as I prepare to attend the Real Refreshment Retreat in Baltimore! Yes, lots and lots of fun coming!

I’m cooking…

Okay, I’m going to cheat here.. I’m going to share something my MOM is doing right now so that WE can cook later. My mom and I are venturing into sauerkraut! This morning my mom and I found the perfect 3 gallon crock at the antique store and my mom took the five heads of cabbage I had and right now they are fermenting and getting ready to turn into delicious sauerkraut – yum! And when that yummy sauerkraut is done, we’ll can it!

I’m grateful for…

EVERY SINGLE BLESSING.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

A shot of the  kitchen redo I’ve been working on. I’ll post more pictures when I’m done!

Hey, y’all! I’m Amber and I wear many hats. I drink a ton of coffee and I’m constantly sweeping crumbs off the floor. After 20+ years of homeschooling, we are starting over at preschool with our fourth, Lil Miss Mouse. She keeps us young and she’s the main reason for my excessive coffee consumption. Drink up!
