WFMW – Pseudo Trick-Or-Treat

We don’t really get into Halloween here. In years past, we’ve attended a fall harvest festival at the town square, with games and bouncy houses – and trick or treating around the businesses at the square.

Honestly, I didn’t mind the festival but the trick or treating was my least favorite part.

This year we didn’t have a festival, but the businesses still did the Safe Treat last Saturday. When we drove through town and saw the kids in their costumes walking around the square collecting candy, my 8 year old said, “can’t we just trick or treat for a little bit?

To which I replied, “can’t I just buy you some candy?”

After considering it for a second she decided that was acceptable and said, “okay.” See, she doesn’t really care about the trick-or-treating either. She just wants the candy. All the kids agreed so we headed to Burger King instead, shared and Oreo cookie shake and played on the indoor playground for a while.

It was way more fun.

When I went to the grocery store Sunday, I bought Twizzlers, Tootsie Rolls, Mini Gummy Worms, and Candy Corn, I cut the Twizzlers into 6ths and dumped everything into a Glad storage container and gave it a good shake.

And there you have it – Instant Trick-Or-Treat results without all the Trick-Or-Treat hassle.

The kids get to pick out three pieces a day – all at once or spacing them out, it’s up to them. They’re happy and I’m happy.

Well, mostly.

Next time I need to pick candies that MOMMA DOESN’T LIKE. Ahem. But that’s beside the point. 😛

LOL I posted about Halloween candy on Monday! I’m not big on Halloween either… in fact, our older kids never trick or treated at all. This time around, my hubby has decided that the safe sites (the mall) are okay. I never liked trick or treating as a kid… cold, dark, strangers… nope. But our church usually has some kind of a party, so that’s where we’ll be this year. Warm and fun. Works for me! And I probably will buy one bag of candy, but just one. We live on a 35mph road… not a whole lot of kids… Read more »

That wouldn’t work for me… unfortunately… My Angel likes the trick or treating… in fact, I throw out about 3/4 of the candy we get because I refuse to keep it more than 9 months!!!!! She will eat 2 or 3 pieces a day for maybe a week then she’s tired of it. She would rather have ice cream… and I would rather her have ice cream. Trouble is, the only thing I see that Halloween is good for is to usher in the REAL holiday season!!!! Thanksgiving and Christmas… my MOST favorite time of the year!!!!!

We’re starting a new tradition for our toddler– a fall party with pinata, carmel apples, games and costumes of Godly characters (Scripture or history). I’m really excited! I think it will be much more fun than TOT. And speaking of which I should get off the computer and work on cleaning for company…

We have a tradition of having friends here for finger food every Halloween. Then we all go out in our neighborhood to TOT then off to the church harvest party.

This year all of our older kids are in 6th grade so the girls decided instead of going to the harvest party they are going to have their own little party after tot with us. So Tink is going to her girlfriends for that party. it will be her first Halloween party. They are going to watch a movie and have popcorn in the costumes!! Exciting! LOL
