WFMW – Cold can of soda in two minutes flat.

This really works. You may be skeptical. Heck, I was too.

  1. Take one unrefrigerated can of soda.

  2. Set a timer for two minutes.
  3. Lay the can of soda in a drawer, bin, bag, or pile of ice and push it down till it’s at least half covered.
  4. Spin it (but not too fast) until the timer goes off.

I’m not kidding. It really works.

The ice chills the can and the spinning works around the liquid inside so that it chills faster than if it was just sitting in the fridge or freezer waiting for the cold to seep all the way in.

Love it.

If you want it super cold, add another minute.

But two minutes will make it cold enough when you forgot to put a can in the fridge.

Aren’t you glad you know that now??

I like my soda ICE-COLD so I usually take it out of the fridge and put it in the freezer for about 10 min or so…

Wouldn’t the spinning cause the soda to explode when you open it??

Edi –

No – it doesn’t. But we don’t spin it that fast. Just at a slow constant rate. 🙂

What a super idea! My hubby LOOOVES ice-cold soda; he just can’t get it cold enough, especially when there’s none in the fridge at the moment! Thanks for sharing!!

Great idea!
DH likes pop and sometimes I forget to keep enough stocked so there will always be some cold. This will come in very handy!!

I like mine ice cold, so I’ll definitely be trying this trick. There’s nothing worse (well, in the scheme of refreshments, at least) than not having any in the fridge when you really want a cold one. 🙂

You are now my new friend. My sister did her WFMW post on Coffee, Coffee, Coffee. I joked about doing Diet Coke, Diet Coke, Diet Coke. I do like coffee, a lot. Just not daily. Diet Coke, however…. I’ll try this fix. But, um, does the can need to sit a second before opening after all that spinning? And just to be straight–the can is basically in an ice bath? And you literally spin it for two minutes? Okay, does your hand go numb? I’m too technical, huh? I would really like to know, though. Seeing as how we… Read more »

I’ve never had a problem with opening the can. We don’t spin it that fast. 😛
We buy bags of ice from a dispenser in town, instead of making our own. So we just shove the can into the bag of ice, on it’s side, at least half covered and then roll it slowly for two minutes.

Yeah, your hand gets a little numb. But then you switch hands. 😉

If my Coke isn’t ice-cold from the fridge with a full cup of ice to pour it into, I’d rather not even drink it. I will definitely remember this tip. Thanks!

That’s a great idea. I generally take a 2-liter bottle and unscrew the cap (to break the seal) and put it in the freezer in the kitchen for about 15 minute or so if it’s hot and we want soda with our dinner.! I’ll have to try this with the cans…
