Here at Classic Housewife, I value your privacy!

Who we are:

Classic Housewife is a personal blog about homeschooling and homemaking, created and run by Amber Oliver. In addition to written posts and occasional free downloads, we sometimes run giveaways, write reviews, use affiliate links or run ads.

We *always* prioritize valuable content and user experience over monetization and income.

Our website address is: https://classichousewife.com. Our email address is amber@classichousewife.com. You can email any time with any question about privacy, cookies, data, or other privacy related questions.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

For saving comments and detecting spam: When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

For Gravatar Profile Pictures: An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

We use a comment plugin called WpDiscuz, which expands and adds functionality for blog commenters. This is a new addition that was recently added, which allows comments to register so their information can be saved and pulled up quickly. Alternatively, you can also comment as a Guest without registering. WpDiscuz doesn’t save your data, but uses data collected by Classic Housewife to improve the experience of the users, and is GDPR compliant. Features of this plugin include:

  • Register to save your name, email address, Gravatar logo, etc. Gravatar logos will be cached and saved for 30 days so they don’t have to be retrieved from the Gravatar site each time you comment.
  • Guest browser cookies will be saved for two days so that if you return in the next 48 hours for additional comments, you will automatically proceed as a Guest like before.
  • You can edit, change, or remove your information or your comments at any time.
  • You can choose to subscribe to additional comments on the post, replies to your comment, or both. You can cancel or edit these subscriptions at any time.

Media

Media Safety Warning: If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. At this time, Classic Housewife doesn’t offer the option of uploading media to comments.

Cookies

Cookies for comments: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. Please refer to the above section about the comments plugin that we use.

Cookies for plugins: Certain plugins use cookies to improve the experience for the user, keep record of page visits and other site activity, or enable sharing, for example.

The following WordPress Plugins use cookies:

  • Akismet Anti-Spam plugin for protecting our site against spam comments. Akismet is owned and operated by Automattic which is GDPR compliant; you can find their privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/. You can contact them here: https://akismet.com/contact/. From Akismet: “We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).”
  • JetPack for WordPress plugin which offers a variety of WordPress features for the blogger such as Site Statistics. Jetpack is also owned and operated by Automattic which is GDPR compliant; again you can find their privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/. You can contact them here: https://jetpack.com/contact-support/.
  • Sassy Social Share plugin, which allows you to be able to share a post to your Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Stumbleupon account and which uses cookies to allow you connect to your account as well as tracking the total number of shares. Sassy Social Share is owned and operated by Heateor, which is GDPR compliant. Heateor doesn’t track and store your data but instead enables third parties to be able to recognize you by cookies.
    • We embed a Facebook widget to allow you to see number of likes/shares/recommends and “like/share/recommend” our webpages. This widget may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the widget, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the widget (such as “liking/sharing/recommending” our webpage), if you are logged in to Facebook. For more information about how this data may be used, please see Facebook’s data privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/update
    • We use a Twitter Tweet widget at our website. As a result, our website makes requests to Twitter’s servers for you to be able to tweet our webpages using your Twitter account. These requests make your IP address visible to Twitter, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://twitter.com/en/privacy#update
    • We use a GooglePlus widget at our website. As a result, our website makes requests to Google’s servers for you to be able to share our webpages using your GooglePlus account. These requests make your IP address visible to Google, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
    • We use a Linkedin Share widget at our website to allow you to share our webpages on Linkedin. These requests may track your IP address in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy
    • We use Pinterest Save widget at our website to allow you to pin images to Pinterest from our webpages. These requests may track your IP address in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://policy.pinterest.com/en/privacy-policy
    • We use StumbleUpon Badge widget at our website which may log information when you interact with the widget. Log Data is a form of Non-Identifying Information, in accordance with their privacy policy: http://www.stumbleupon.com/privacy
  • WWSGD Plugin uses cookie recognition to choose a welcome message. By recognizing whether a person is a returning visitor or a new visitor, WWSGD displays a first time welcome message, or a “welcome back” message for returning visitors. WWSGD doesn’t store information, but uses the information WordPress collects. For example, this plugin may be used to greet a new visitor with the message “Hi! Our website is GDPR compliant. Check out our privacy policy here.” and a returning visitor with the message, “Welcome back! We’ve updated our site and our privacy policy to be GDPR compliant. See the new privacy policy here.”

When you visit this site, you will be prompted with a Cookie-Accept notice. When you accept, your preference should be kept for one year, and you shouldn’t have to accept again. If you accept cookies but change your mind, you can revoke consent by clicking on the following button. Revoke cookies

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Third Party Links

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third party products or services on our website. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.

Analytics

In addition to the WordPress Site Statistics offered through the Jetpack plugin, we also run Google Analytics and Statcounter Stats–both of which have made necessary GDPR updates and have high measures of security. These programs don’t collect personally identifiable data, but rather track generic demographic data, such as pages visited, visit lengths, countries visited from, etc. All of the programs do hold and organize visitor data into readable graphs and charts of generic data.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information.

This does not include some personal information (such as email addresses provided when leaving comments) which is stored in database backups on 3rd party sites used for web hosting, etc., and which sites are believed to be trustworthy, secure and confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others rights, property, or safety.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information (such as visitors per month and other user demographics) may be provided to other parties for the purposes or partnering together for reviews, marketing, and other projects.

Additionally, if you choose to subscribe to our mailing list, that subscription information will be shared with our mailing host, MailChimp. You can request that your information be removed (unsubscribed) at any time.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
